What a fashion e-commerce photoshoot costs in 2026, line by line
What an on-model e-commerce photoshoot costs in 2026: model, photographer, studio, styling, retouching and usage fees, per day and per image, with sources.

A day of on-model e-commerce photography in the Netherlands costs roughly €2,500 to €4,600 once you add up the photographer, studio, model, hair and makeup, styling and retouching. At six to ten fully styled outfits a day and five images per outfit, that works out at roughly €50 to €155 per finished image. Published studio price lists look much cheaper, from about €10 to €35 per image, but most of them leave out the model fee or do not say whether it is included. Usage rights come on top: a German agency table charges another 100% of the model's day fee for one year on your own webshop, and a London agency puts wider usage at often two to ten times the day rate. Below is the cost line by line, with public prices from European studios and agencies, a worked example, and the questions to ask before you compare quotes.

What a shoot day really costs. Photographer, studio, model, hair and makeup, styling, retouching. €2,500 to €4,600 for a full day in the Netherlands. Usage rights come on top. €50 to €155 per finished image. Ask what a per-image price includes. Source: published price lists, NL, DE and UK, September 2026.
All prices below are excluding VAT unless stated, taken from the suppliers' own pages in September 2026. They are examples from published price lists.
Why per-image prices look cheap
Studios that publish prices usually price per image or per outfit:
- doorNorbert (Netherlands): €21 per flat lay photo, €24 on a mannequin, €34 per photo on a model.
- Fotostudio Hellekammer (Cologne): €69 per outfit for five views on a model, including editing, with a €500 minimum order.
- Sage Studio (London): from £10 per image and £5 per detail image.
The catch is that these pages rarely say whether the model is included. Where they do say something, the model, hair and makeup and styling are often add-ons. EasyShoots in the Netherlands, for example, charges €1,150 for a full day of model photography on a white background, with model sourcing, hair and makeup, and styling listed separately. Before you compare a per-image price with anything else, ask what it includes.
The line items
Photographer and studio

Many e-commerce studios quote the photographer and their studio together. In the Netherlands, Focus Shot Studio lists model photography at €800 for a full day and €500 for a half day, and EasyShoots €1,150 for a full day. A Dutch agency guide puts a full shoot day with a fashion photographer at €950 to €2,500. In Germany, professional photographers' day rates run €600 to €2,000. For the UK, a research site built on 40 published price lists puts established commercial photographers at £500 to £1,000 a day, with London about a third higher.
If you hire a studio separately, a daylight studio in Amsterdam such as Studio Ferdinand costs €375 a day for commercial use, and WE Studio in Berlin €350 for eight hours. London cove hire runs from £300 for a five-hour compact booking to £2,000 for a large commercial day, plus VAT; STU 22 in Wapping charges £850 for a full day.
Model fees and agency terms
Model day rates for e-commerce are lower than for campaigns, and they come with conditions that change the total:
- A Belgian agency publishes €320 to €640 for a full day, before VAT and commission.
- A London agency gives e-commerce work as £150 to £400 a day, with commercial and lifestyle work at £400 to £1,500.
- Dutch agencies add around 20% commission on top. A half day is often 60% of the day rate, and overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate, according to the Mix-Models terms.
- Late cancellation is expensive: Only Model Management charges 50% inside 48 hours and 100% on the day, and New Generation charges 100% inside 24 hours.
Hair and makeup, and styling
A Dutch hair and makeup artist lists €575 for a full day and €350 for a half day. A German agency starts at €425 for four hours. In London, Sage Studio gives £300 to £500 a day for hair and makeup and £300 to £600 for a fashion stylist. A Dutch fashion photographer quotes team members such as a stylist or makeup artist from €600 per person.
Retouching
Basic e-commerce editing can be as low as €3.50 per photo at a Dutch studio, Focus Shot. Beauty retouching of people costs €6 per image at a German service, and heavier retouching in the UK is typically around £25 per image or £40 an hour. Rush delivery adds more: Focus Shot charges 50% extra for 24-hour service.
Usage rights: the line most budgets miss
The model's fee buys the day. Where and how long you may use the images is a separate question, and it can cost more than the day itself.

- Dutch default: one year, Netherlands only. Agencies such as Mix-Models and Only Model Management include one year of use in the Netherlands unless you agree otherwise. Use on a German webshop, on a pan-European marketplace, or after twelve months needs a separate agreement.
- Germany: a percentage of the day fee. German agencies set buyouts from a table published by their association VELMA. In the 2017 version, use on a client's website or online shop in Germany costs 100% of the day fee per year, and worldwide print 1,000%. It is guidance, but agencies use it.
- UK: often a multiple of the day rate. A London agency writes that usage is quoted on top and "often two to ten times bigger" than the day rate, depending on media, territory and duration.
Ask for usage in writing before the shoot: which channels, which countries, how long, and what renewal costs.
A worked example
One full day of on-model e-commerce photography in the Netherlands, built from the published prices above. Treat it as an illustration.
| Line | Efficient day, 50 images | Slow day, 30 images |
|---|---|---|
| Photographer and studio, full day | €800 | €2,500 |
| Model, full day (Belgian agency rate), plus 20% commission | €384 | €768 |
| Hair and makeup, full day | €575 | €575 |
| Stylist, full day (a "from" price) | €600 | €600 |
| Retouching at €3.50 and €6 per image | €175 | €180 |
| Total for the day | €2,534 | €4,623 |
| Per finished image | about €51 | about €154 |
The example assumes six to ten fully styled outfits a day at five images an outfit, which gives the 30 to 50 images above. Usage beyond one year in one country, sample shipping, steaming and reshoots all come on top. Volume studios shoot more products a day on a plain e-commerce set. Throughput, together with the missing model fee, is why per-image price lists can sit at €10 to €35.

What moves the price
- Outfits per day. The biggest driver. Complicated styling, layered looks and outfit changes lower the count.
- Images per outfit. Hellekammer's outfit price covers five views. Denim and outerwear pages often need seven (see our shot list per category), and each extra view adds set time and retouching.
- Model and usage. Wider usage costs more: more channels, more countries and a longer period.
- Half days and overtime. A half day costs more than half, and overtime runs at 1.5 times the hourly rate in the Mix-Models terms.
- Retouching level. From €3 for standard retouching of model photos at EasyShoots to about £25 for heavy retouching in the UK, per image.
- Minimums and rush fees. Hellekammer has a €500 minimum order, and Focus Shot adds 50% for 24-hour delivery.
- Reshoots. Late samples, wrong colours and missed shots all come back as extra days.

Product photography cost per image: ghost mannequin and flat lay
Product-only images cost less because there is no model on set. Full-service ghost mannequin photography in Europe runs about €14.50 to €28 per final photo, from Rotterdam Fotostudio to Scanmotion, and flat lays start at €12 per photo at Focus Shot. At the same studio the two are often priced alike: EasyShoots charges €17.50 for ghost and €18 for a flat lay. Our comparison of ghost mannequin, flat lay and on-model images covers prices and when each is the right choice.

Where generated imagery changes the maths
Reuters reported in May 2025 that generative AI had cut Zalando's editorial image production from six to eight weeks to three to four days, and costs by 90%. That figure covers editorial campaign images, not product pages, but it shows where the savings come from: the day rates and studio time in the table above, and the reshoots after it.

Some costs do not disappear. You still need accurate product references for every item, people to review the images against them, a model identity that has been approved, and clear disclosure where the law requires it. Our checklist for AI models for clothing brands covers what to check. HUMBLEBOB does not publish a rate card: we price each pilot per brand, on your own products, so you can compare it with a shoot. Pilots are paid, and no ongoing contract is needed.
Numbers you will see without a source
Two figures circulate without a source: that fashion brands spend "5 to 8% of revenue on visual content" according to McKinsey, and that "67% of brands" name photography cost as their biggest obstacle. HUMBLEBOB could not find a primary source for either, and one vendor page that repeats the 5 to 8% figure calls it "a budget scenario, not an industry average". Treat them with care, and ask for the original study when someone quotes them to you.
